Eid’l Adha

BREAKING MY HEART NEWS:

November 27 and 28 (Eid’l Adha Holidays) as initially declared as Special Holiday by Malacañang through Presidential Proclamation No. 1808, will only be celebrated as a Regional Holiday in Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) as amended by Proclamation No. 1808-A. Thus, the following dates will be treated as regular working days for all offices operating outside of the ARMM.

Guess i will just use my Birthday LEAVE on the 27th! ;)

What is Eid’l Adha?

Muslims celebrate Eid’l Adha. Eid’l Adha is celebrated yearly to mark the end of Hajj, the pilgrimage to Mecca (the holy place), to commemorate Prophet Ibrahim act of sacrificing his son. The Hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam. At least once in a Muslims lifetime, those who can afford to make the trip are obligated to go on Hajj.. Thousands of Filipino muslims go on pilgrimage to Mecca each year. Before a Muslim goes on pilgrimage, he/she should cleanse himself or herself by making amends for wrongs committed.

Clean-up Holiday Cancelled

I was waiting for the update of this clean-up holiday, The president announces last monday of one-day special non-working holiday or clean-up holiday within this week. It is friday today and we are already at work. So the holiday isn't happening. :)

Ms beng forwarded this email to me which says:

Administrative Order 270, issued by President Arroyo last Tuesday, directed all heads of departments, bureaus and agencies under the executive branch and government-owned and controlled corporations to mobilize their officials and employees to help in the relief and rehabilitation of calamity-stricken areas brought about by storm “Ondoy.”

Instead of the planned one-day special non-working holiday announced last Monday, Malacañang has decided to mobilize government employees to help in the cleanup operations in areas affected by floods. Source: Philippine Star

Clean Up holiday in Metro

I am still here in the office 630pm, typing and waiting that somehow the drafting of the executive order for a massive clean-up in Metro Manila will be announced not later tonight.

It has been in the news that President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo already ordered the drafting of the massive clean-up day and it will be declared a special non-working day within this week.

The massive clean-up is caused by none other than typhoon Ondoy last weekend which left 246 death tolls, 37 people remain missing, 374,890 people sheltered in 607 makeshift evacuation camps and P2.33 billion cost of damages to property and crops.

Though Malacañang asks metro mayors to exercise their power to "declare a holiday for a massive sanitation and clean-up day" if it deem fit. I wonder if Makati will declare a holiday..

July 27 is NOT a HOLIDAY!

July 27 a working holiday, Palace clarifies

MANILA, Philippines -- Malacañang clarified on Wednesday that the Iglesia Ni Cristo Day it declared for July 27 would be a special "working" holiday.

Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita made the clarification after the Palace on Tuesday issued conflicting statements about the holiday.

One statement said July 27 would be a "non-working" holiday while another one said it would be a "working" holiday.

In making the declaration, Malacañang said it was recognizing the INC’s role not only in the spiritual and moral formation of its followers but also the church’s contributions to nation-building.

July 27 is the INC’s founding anniversary.

The INC has been known to deliver a solid bloc of votes to national candidates whom it deems fit to be in public
I should be rejoicing UNTIL this news came out. Really disappointing. Thank you very much. :(

State of the Nation Address 2009 and Iglesia ni Cristo Anniversary falls on the same day!

I heard in the news this morning that there will be like 3000 policemen who will secure the HOuse of Representatives in Quezon City for the July 27, 2009 SONA of the President of the Philippines Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. It might be her last SONA - that is if she will not run again for office. I don’t know with you but I am allergic to politics so I might leave it at that.

What can be of good news to a worker like me is that – it falls on the same day with the Iglesia ni Cristo Founding Anniversary and it has been proclaimed yesterday that it will be a non working holiday! Good news yeah?

Iglesia ni Cristo Day a non-working holiday

MANILA, Philippines -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has designated a special day for the Iglesia ni Cristo, a church denomination often approached by politicians seeking its so-called bloc support in elections.

Arroyo declared July 27 as “Iglesia ni Cristo Day,” a non-working holiday commemorating the founding anniversary of the sect.

“President Arroyo wishes to congratulate in advance the INC, at present under the stewardship of Executive Minister Eraño Manalo and Deputy Executive Minister Eduardo Manalo, on this year’s landmark anniversary,” Malacañang said in a statement.

“Likewise, the President wishes to thank the INC for the very active and significant roles its leaders and members have always played not only in the spiritual and moral formation of our people over the past several decades, but in nation-building as well,” the Palace said.

I guess I have no choice but to watch the SONA – I badly need lots of sleep, I know the long talk of GMA will help me sleep faster! ;)
